Anglo-Chinese School (Potter)

I'm personally elated and shocked that I got 23/25 for my Literature essay on 'The Tragic Genre'. For those of you who don't remember it, think about a certain piece of June holiday homework for which we had to read Sophocles' Oedipus the King and Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman as part of studying about Tragedy as a literary genre. And of course don't forget the bit about the essay-writing.

23/25 is indeed extremely high, and just from reading Mr. Lee's comments alone, I would never have guessed that I would get such high marks. Trash that, I would never have even guessed I would've gotten over 20, considering I didn't really read either play.

I think Govind's right in his comparison of Literature as Defence Against the Dark Arts, Mr. Lee as Professor Lupin and myself as Harry Potter. Interesting concept though.

Anyway, speaking of ACS-Potterworld parallels, here's an interesting scene today before lessons started.

Mdm Lena Yeo was informing us, 'Next Monday, as there will be no Chapel in view of the Common Tests, Mr. Soo will be taking over the 1-hour for his lessons. Please be prepared.'

Upon hearing that, everyone rushes to check their time-table, only to find out that the original Life-sciences period was 9am - 10am, meaning to say that the new Life-sciences lesson would be from 8am - 10am, or twice of what we would normally get on Mondays.

And then someone goes, 'Oh dangit. Double-potions next Monday.'

Amusing, but Mr. Soo in many ways does resemble Snape in terms of behaviour and conduct during lessons, apart from the fact that Snape is far wittier than most.

History and History of Magic automatically correspond, unless you're talking about Sec 1 History, because Professor Binns is in no way like Mr. Singh. That should be pretty obvious, heh.

I would think Mr. Singh as more of Gilderoy Lockhart - all self-praise and no work done at all.

So, how about students?

I would presume it safe to start by saying John Loh resembles Percy Weasley almost identically, and then Neville Tan isn't a namesake of Neville Longbottom for nothing - they truly are similar.

Personally, I would see the character of Hermione most in Kevin Wong, for the fact that he is hardworking like her, yet still able to maintain a decent social life. I shall not name those who are too hardworking to maintain a social life though.

Zhang Quan reminds me the most of Ron Weasley, perhaps because he's one of my best friends (not implying that I'm like Harry Potter, because that's a definite no) and because of the... aura. (Yes, zQ aura. Heehee.)

Kevin Low is a clear-cut Fred/George Weasley, and I don't think many would disagree on that. It's the natural knack for fun, you know.

It would utmostly slapstick to liken Herrick aka. Demel to Demelza Robins, but I actually think he's much like the other Weasley twin, in correspondence to Kevin Low.

I would have to give the title of 'Draco Malfoy' to Michael Chee, for quite simple reasons, if you're in my class. Despite being an 'irritant', he still maintains a certain level of wit and maybe, charm (since Draco Malfoy is charming to people like Pansy Parkinson).

Judging mostly from the 6th book, as well as collectively from the previous 5 books, Eka Choong - with all due respect to you as a heterosexual male - is quite like Ginny Weasley. If you've read Half-Blood Prince, you'd know how attractive Ginny is to the opposite sex, and I think that needs to further elaboration. And of course, we also know that Ginny was a rather quiet character in the previous books, just as Eka was rather quiet (according to what Mrs. Molly Sng said) in Primary School.

Harry Potter is one of the hardest to liken to any of us Sec 2 GEPers, considering how unique, heroic and specially-crafted he is in the series. Some people say that David Crawshaw looks like Harry Potter, but I'd rather not go too far on that.

As for myself, that's a little tricky I would think. If you really asked me, though, I'd liken myself most to Luna Lovegood (and NO this does NOT mean that I'm gay). I just adore her knack for (often embarassing) shamelessness, her unconventionality, and the whole ethereality of her being. And her silvery eye colour gives a sense of mystical depth.

If not Luna, then Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort, easily my most favourite character in the series. His stunning capabilities make you either love him or hate him as a character, and given my liking for antagonists and anti-heroes, I find Voldemort quite a dark, mysterious character.

(And no, please don't say that Joshua Rene, Govind or Sidhant is Voldemort because of skin colour. Cough cough.)

Well, those are my personal thoughts about ACS-Potterworld parallels. Would like to hear your ACS(or whatever school you come from)-Potterworld parallels.

And no, before you start thinking of it, Dr. Ong is nowhere near being like Albus Dumbledore.

Edit: But come to think of it, Mrs. Fanny Tan is almost like a carbon copy of Prof. McGonagall. Wahahaha.

We did the tragedy essay ... last week. Or rather, passed up last week. Adrian Chan will never give people above 20 for essays. Unless they are able to see unknown imagery that only he sees (which is in reality not even there)

Interesting comparisons. Hm.

Maybe it's not that they don't exist. They're just products of a deranged mind + the innuendo experience/tendency. =P

It's all connotative. Just like the way he takes off his shoes during lessons. o_O

Invisible images

Hello... NOBODY actually sees what the teacher sees... unless you're a teacher youself. So, in other words, you can never get full marks unless you stoop to their level. Oops, I mean, become one of their calibre... *cough*

Re: Invisible images

I never knew erotica had 'calibre'. Cough cough.

Let's just say it takes one to know one. So if you want to do well in Adrian Chan's class, go surf porn.

OKAY WAIT I NEVER SAID THAT. SHUSH.

What fascinating parallels. I'm afraid our school doesn't have very much of those, which might have something to do with the fact that we are a girls' school. For one, our in-class geniuses are Charlotte and E-Lynn, and catch me dead saying Muthu is one bit like Hermione Granger.

Looks like one of Rita Skeeter's...

I don't think Albus Dumbledore hands out 118 parchments and expects the students to collect a thousand Galleons in six months...

Kwong will kill you when he finds out.

I am NOTHING like Fred/George Weasley. That's more of a Gideon.

You Know You’re Too Big of a Harry Potter Fan When...
2. You call your least favorite teacher Snape.
16. You refer to your Chemistry class as Potions.
28. You were kicked out of the Movie Theater for standing on your chair, throwing your shoe at the screen and yelling “THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN IN THE BOOK!”

Top 150 signs that you are a Harry Potter Fan
17. You want to study to keep the Hermione spirit alive.
26. You try to justify Harry Potter to your friends by talking about its deep sub-contexts.
33. You pick up your toothbrush and mutter “Lumos”
37. You constantly (without meaning to) call your teachers “Professor”.
38. You believe that JK wrote the books based on her own experience, and that she is really Hermione, and that this is all a plot by Dumbledore to break the news to us Muggles gently that there is magic for real and to get us involved in the fight against Voldemort since he’s still out there in Albania. (Weirdest... >_<)
60. You’re convinced that your Science teacher is a Death Eater.
105. You know whom Kevin the Teenager is. (Yup. Me.)
118. Everyone reminds you of the book. (Interesting number...)
119. When bored in class, you scan the room and see what kids could be the book characters (i.e., the blonde boy in the back of the class could be Malfoy, the pretty Asian girl could be Cho, etc.)
149. You refer to your school hall as, ‘the great hall’ and manage to relate your ‘Muggle’ school lessons to Hogwarts lessons. For example, Maths becomes Arithmancy; Chemistry is potions, etc. You confirm this by hurrying down the school corridors saying at the top of your voice, ‘Come on, we’re going to be late for Potions!’

Taken off the web a couple of months back... before book 5 came out.

Cheers,
Fred and George Weasley

*points to your signature* Ahem, I never said anything about you being schizophrenic. Don't be so egoistic and try to be BOTH of them. Heehee.

Maybe because your character is more complex. =P

Zhang said he thinks he's more of like an amalgamation of the Potterworld trio. Hmmm.

Anyway, Snape is actually one of the most sophisticated characters, and certainly very cool. That's where Sooman doesn't get anywhere near. Teachers like dt are cooler. xD
